dex @ Nats game 1, Jim Beam and Pepsi
Well, I must say I was excited. Today was the Washington Nationals second home game of the season and the first of many games I will be attending this year. I was excited because last week Pedro Martinez of the New York Mets hit Jose Guillen with a pitch. Guillen took some steps towards the mound and benches cleared. No real brawl, but there were suspensions and fines handed out. Tonight Pedro would be pitching again and I have a ticket. With Tracy working nights and the other 2/3's of the nice boys attending to prior obligations I asked my brother and his wife to come with me. I only have two tickets so we had to pick up a third at the gate. BIG HUGE GI-NORMOUS MISTAKE! There must have been nobody watching those first couple innings because we were all out standing in front of this little trailer with eight tiny windows trying to get tickets to see the game. But in the immortal words of Axl Rose, all we need is just a little patience. My bro finally snagged a third ticket and we were soon snaking our way up the ramps to our outfield perch.
My brother’s wife came much more prepared than any man ever would. She whips out drinks and sunflower seeds from her bag. Very cool! The sunflower seeds were a brand I had never seen before. Jim Beam. So I guess I had Jim Beam and Pepsi at the game. Hmm…
It says, “Soaked in Genuine Beam Whiskey”
Oh yeah, no brawl. Nats lost 3 to 1. In this picture I’m trying to capture Soriano’s game tying home run in the bottom of the ninth. Instead I seemed to have captured him grounding out to end the game.
A few inside notes to the nice boys:
- Johnny P, yes I tried the Hecht’s, they said they only sold tickets to Camden Yard game. (Which doesn’t make sense the more I think about it, but whatever.)
- Greggity, guys were selling hats for five dollars. FIDOLLAHATS!

I just checked the Ticketmaster website. The Nationals are no longer selling tickets through them. Your only options are to buy them on the Nationals website or at the stadium. Very strange.
Now I checked the Nationals website. If you buy tickets on-line, there's a $3.50 "convenience fee" per ticket. That's a 50% surcharge on the seats we normally buy. Rip-off!
Great post! I'm sorry the game wasn't more exciting . . . a brawl would have been great, or perhaps that Soriano game tying HR you wrote of.
But I'm glad you got out there and had a good time with the bro. Sis in law sounds like Macgyver. And maybe I WILL try some sunflower seeds this year! Just kidding. I don't think I'd have any seeds even if they were covered in the stuff inside the cadbury creme egg.
FIDOLLAHATS??!! Whoa!

Oh yeah. Did I mention the surcharge for reading my blog posts? All funds go to supporting Greggity's Ebenezer's hot chocolate study.
