dex returns

I have admittedly missed many blogging opportunities and I apologize. But this blog idea is time sensitive, so I must blog it now. It has to do with my family and sports, which don't necessarily go hand in hand. My mother organizes the NCAA bracket pool at her office every year. It is totally above board and legal, nobody puts in money but the company offers some nice prizes to the top 3 winners. My mom knows nothing about basketball, but that does not stop her from happily participating in the event. Each year she just picks the highest seeds to the final four and then sends an email to me and my brother asking which of the number one teams will win it all. This method has actually won her some of the prizes in past years. So with that back story I will now quote an email chain between dex, dex's mother and dex's brother:

dex's mother: I need your best guess for March Madness champ – Duke, Memphis, Connecticut or Villanova.

dex: Of those 4, UCONN I guess. But just about everyone will have them winning it all. [I picked Pitt, cuz I'm mad a the world.]

dex's brother: I've steered you wrong 7 of the last 7 years. Why do you continue to ask? I say George Mason . . . go with an underdog. You can never rule out Duke come tournament time. But UCONN is the safe choice, and that's the best for a frugal investor like you.

dex's mother: I thank you, one and all, for your insightful information. Frugal investor that I am, UCONN it is. However, I will remember to lean to George Mason to win in early games. (Are they even playing, or are they some sort of hockey team or something, and you’re just setting me up for a good laugh?)

dex: If GM won the first two rounds then they would be in DC with a lot of fans. But they have to get through UNC which probably won't happen.

dex's brother: It was a joke.

(preceding messages all before first game of tournament.)

dex (monday morning after GMU improbable overtime win over UCONN): joke?

Shout out to Johnny P alma mater GMU!
We love the improbable...
Go Patriots!
